Sofortbild support for missing camera models
I’ve just added support for Nikon D2, D1, D100, D70 and D50 to Sofortbild. Since there is no official SDK for those camera models and I don’t own them I don’t know if it will really work. So please let me know if you own one of the camera models and would like to try the new Sofortbild Beta.

Srefan,
Yes, I own a D70s and would love to give the beta a try.
I use a MacBook, Intel Core 2 duo with 2Gb RAM on 10.4.11.
Thank you for adding support for these cameras!
I tried it with my D50. It works great when I use the shutter-release button on the camera or the remote. But I can’t use the software to control the shutter release. I get the error “Unable to capture – The camera was not able to capture an image. Check camera settings and then try again.”
Also, after I take a photo, the red progress spinner in the lower-right corner just spins and spins, and the control buttons in the toolbar (which I can’t use anyway) remain disabled. I am still able to take more shots with the button or remote, of course.
I’m on a 2.2 GHz MacBook Pro with 10.5.7.
I’ll give it a try with my D50 and black first-gen MacBook Core Duo, 10.5.7. Thanks for adding it to the options!
As Ariel reported, remote shutter release from the Mac doesn’t work with the D50. However, another project, StudioTether, does trigger the shutter, so it is possible. Perhaps StudioTether developer R Cooper can help you out?
I have the same problem as Ariel with my D50. Capturing does not work with the “capture” button in “Sofortbild”.
Maybe I can help you fixing this by sending you some logs/debug messages or something?
I own a D70 and like to give it a try – but I still use 10.4. Any chance?
Cheers, Sebastian
Works great with the D3 in short photo shoots, but Nikon Control Beta 3 consistently crashed after about 70 or 80 shots during a one hour photo session and required re-starting, so I am not sure if this has been fixed in this new release?
However 1.0.1 (51) still does not work at all with the D2x or D100 which are not recognised. The cameras simply lock up until they are disconnected.
Tested with MacBook Pro first gen 10.5.7 and Mac Pro first gen 10.5.7
Looking forward to the next release!

Works with Nikon d2x. Software capture button does not work but release on camera does. When I try software capture, camera information stops working, re boot software – works again.
10.5.7

My other comment seems to have disappeared, so I will repeat: on the D50, remote shutter release (and thus timed shutter release) doesn’t work, but another free project, StudioTether, does work even though it is a much simpler program. Maybe R Cooper, the developer of StudioTether/LightroomTether, can help you out with that?
I’ve also got a D70 and would love to try the beta. I’m hoping to do some time-lapse projects soon, and D70 support would be awesome!
Sofortbild does not recognize my camera (D50). I’ve set the camera to PTP mode, but the Soforbild does not find the camera. Is does show up under the USB devices in “about this Mac”, so the connection is Ok. The cameraicon in Sofortbild stays gray.
Any ideas, suggestions?
I’m on a powermac G5, running Leopard 10.5.7
D2Xs and D2h both connect and can fire via shutter button but not via software. D700,D90 both work no problem via software
Awesome. You just made my day. I had tried some other programs but without success…this one just worked instantly once I installed the beta (1.0) didn’t work for me as you’d expect. I used my D70s and it worked great. Thanks for an amazing program. Lots of positive press about this lately. Great work.
Hello, I just tried the Beta with my D70. It recognized the camera but does not show a preview. It won’t capture the image remotely, either. I successfully took a picture using the camera’s shutter release and it worked as expected. The image I took is now in the big display window….
Great work to get it this far, though.
Just tried the latest beta, and you can now trigger the shot from the software for the D70… Andy, download and try it again if you can…
I’ll be trying the software with a Nikon Coolpix 8800. I’ve found gphoto2 handles a lot of its settings, but is extraordinariiy slow, and I never could successfully capture an image to my MacBook Pro (2.4GHz Intel, Mac OS X 10.5.7).
This will be fun!
Well, it would have been fun.
Icarus Software recognizes the 8800 and supports basic capture and review.
Sofortbild did not recognize the camera. So, end of testing. . . .
I’m saving my pennies for a Nikon D-90.
I just used the beta to control our lab’s Nikon D50. All the settings and controls that I tried (aperture, shutter speed, shutter release) worked fine. I really like the large review window as well. I am using the D50 on a Nikon Microscope and it’s nice to see that the image you just captured is in sharp focus.
Thanks,
Michael
+1 for post #14 – Except I’m on a D100.
Looking very promising though!
Cheers,
Ian
Tried with Nikon D50 on MacOSX 10.5.2, first it refused to work – then realized I needed to disable the application “Image Capture” from starting every time it detected my camera.
Image Capture > Preferences > Camera > No application
Sofortbild works fine after that.
Thank you for the beautiful and useful application!
Works decent with my D50 in PTP mode. Make sure you follow Harshad’s advice and disable anything from automatically using the camera (image capture, iphoto, etc.) when it’s plugged in.
The only issue I have is that after a long period of idle time it stops responding. Restarting the application and power cycling the camera fixes it.
my nikon d 200 is not even detected….
Works with my D70s. Thank you very much!
MBP 10.5.8
The program will run with my D100 and I can capture by using the shutter release on the camera body but I can’t get the software to remote capture, I keep getting the error message that tells me to check my camera settings. If anybody knows the solution to this I’d be very grateful because it looks like a great program.
Hello.
