Nikon Control Beta 2a

This is just a minor update to the beta 2 and does not contain the announced missing feature requests. Instead it contains support for the Nikon D3x. (There have already been some professional photo shootings with the new version.)

I had to rewrite some stuff for using different camera drivers. But I did it in a way so that I can add all remaining models easily. So in the next version there should be support for all Nikon DSLR models.

The second new feature is Apple Remote support. If you have one you can use it’s play button to trigger the capture button, which might be quite handy if you don’t have a remote trigger already. I’m thinking about adding more buttons for other functions.

There are also some improvements in this version:

- ISO and Battery Status Both are now shown in the bottom bar.

- Colored Image Histogram In colored mode the overlapping areas are colored in cyan, magenta, yellow and white.

- Save Filename Immediately In the preferences the filename is now saved after any keystroke.

- Exit Fullscreen Mode with ESC You can use Command+F or ESC to exit fullscreen mode.

- Multithreading The whole camera communication now is done in a seperate thread, which results in a slighty faster communication and the UI reponds immediately.

- Faster Image Acquisition Images are loaded in a seperate thread, so the next image can be aquired from the camera while the current is loaded from disk and rendered to the screen.

- Continuous Shooting The camera isn’t locked during image acquisition, so you can continuously shoot as many pictures as you like with the shutter button on the camera.

- Bracketing Progress Sheet The progress is shown and you can stop bracketing.

The new version is available as download (if you haven’t installed Nikon Control yet or still using beta 1) or via auto update.

Please keep posting feedback and feature requests. If you would like to get a personal reply please don’t post a comment but send me an email.

If you don’t use any Nikon application like “Camera Control Pro 2″ or “Capture NX” you can delete the folder “/Library/Application Support/Nikon”. All camera driver files are now located in the application bundle.

Nikon Control is now called Sofortbild. Please visit the new website http://www.sofortbildapp.com/ to download the app.

Great stuff, Stefan. As you know, I’ve tested this in studio shoots already and it worked wonderfully. Thank you.

  2. drmauro,

great piece of work! do you think it could be possible to implement custom exp time over 30″? It could be useful for who use his own camera for astrophotography…
