iPhone Barcode App v0.3

I uploaded the new version of the iPhone Barcode App yesterday. It’s currently in review. Unfortunately I don’t know how long this will take this time. As I promised here are more screenshots and a feature list.

Important 1: Some of you might still complain about the bad quality of the iPhone camera. Small barcode like 1cm x 1cm usually won’t work. I can’t do much to make this working. If you encounter barcodes that can’t be read the first time, try to scale the image up or down and try it again. In most cases it will work then. Please be sure, your barcode is inside of the red rectangle because the image will be cropped before it gets decoded.

Important 2: I had some cases during testing that the app crashed after pressing the save button of the photo picker. This might happen to you too. Unfortunately I can’t do anything to prevent this behaviour. The app crashes, before my code is called again. The current OS is unfortunately still buggy. So please don’t blame me for that. But I would be happy if you still report me such bugs.

- Rewritten from Scratch
- New App Icon
- New User Interface
- DataMatrix Decoding
- QR Code Decoding
- Save Results
- Open URLs in Safari
- Open Email Addresses in Mail
- Call Numbers in Phone
- Send Result via Mail
- Manage Saved Results
- Threaded Decoding
- Cancel Decoding
- Pick Barcodes from Photo Library

Since I’m too lazy to write a small JavaScript, you have to scroll down to see all screenshots. I’ll announce a small roadmap of what you can expect in the next releases in a separate post. Please let me know what you think of the new version and send be feature requests. If you want to get a reply, please send me an email (you will find the address at the bottom of the page).

  1. mjb,

Can we have ’send sms’ too?

Text in a barcode should be “SMSTO::” like Kaywa reader supports…

  2. mjb,

argh… parsing ruined the previous comment – I meant “SMSTO:<number>:<text>”

  3. Marc,

Can I assume that the next version in the iTunes App store will be numbered 0.3 (with QR Code support) ?

Just to make sure because Apple is a bit slow at updating sometimes and developers sometimes uploaded a newer version before the old one is online :)

    Thanks for the great application.

  4. jonesie,

    Hi Stefan,

Is your earlier barcode reading app in the iPhone store? If so, can you provide a link to it? I was looking for it a week or so ago and could not find it. Thanks and good luck! -jonesie

After several attempts my iPhone Barcode App is finally available in the App Store”

  5. Marc,

@jonesie: Just search for “Barcode” in the iTunes store search field, the current version is 0.2 (as of today)

  6. jonesie,

@Marc: Can it be found here? http://www.apple.com/webapps/index.html

In utilities or productivity? Do you have a direct link to it?

    Thanks!

  7. Shin,

I’m having a problem to download your most recent version 0.2. I downloaded from iPhone and downloaded from iTune. No matter what I use, it download the ORIGINAL version of Barcode is installed, whichi is DataMatrix only and No QR code. I can’t checked the version from the iPhone so I checked it with iTune, it says 1.0!?!?
Why can’t I download 0.2? I DID delete the app comletely from iPhone and iTuen and re-installed.

  8. Stef,

    Hallo Stefan

  9. POP Magazine » iPhone works with MagLink,

[...] to a euro named Stefan Hafeneger the iPhone now works with MagLink! He made an app called Barcode that can scan the barcodes used in POP and also the older style ones Telstra has been pushing. [...]

  10. Marco Berger,

    Hi Stefan

Die Ergebnisse beim QR Code sehen meistens so aus z.B.:

    BEGIN:VCARD
    N:Marco;Berger
    TEL;CELL:+49151111111
    ADR;HOME:;;Loewestrasse 12;Berlin;D;10249;
    ORG:Cautela GmbH;
    TITLE:Dipl. Ing.
    EMAIL:marco.berger@cautela.de
    URL:http://www.iphonemodem.de
    EMAIL;IM:mrschlauberger
    END:VCARD

    Ciao Marco
